How to upgrade your BlackBerry OS

Author: admin | Filed under: BlackBerry

I have just upgraded my operating system on my BlackBerry Bold.
I upgraded from version 4.6.0.126(292) to 4.6.0.216(365)
Daunting as it may sound, the process was pretty straight forward.

This was a PC Installation

Tools Needed.

(1) Download/Install BlackBerry Desktop Software

This application keeps your Desktop and Smartphone data organized, and also used to Back-up and Restore data.

Action:

  • Please ensure  BlackBerry Desktop software version 4.6 or later is selected from the dropdown menu and and then click ‘Next’
  • You will now be presented with several desktop manager applications – select and download your preferred option.
  • Install

(2) Download/Install BlackBerry Handheld Software

Click on this link to select your device model number.
You model number can be found by using the hotkey (alt+shift+h) or Options -> About from the menu

Please Note the link above is only applicable UK T-Mobile users. Click here for other regions and carriers.

Action:

Upgrade

Although the upgrade process automatically backs-up your data and restores it once complete, I would recommend backing-up your data before you begin the upgrade.
A complete back-up can be done with your newly downloaded BlackBerry Desktop Software.

Action:

  • Run the Handheld Software executable file
  • Follow the on screen instruction
  • Upgrading takes a while to do. It varies depending on your data connection speed.
(it took me just over an hour)
